Stirling Castle will be closed for three days next month due to the UCI Cycling World Championships.
Historic Scotland have contacted members to inform them of the closure on Wednesday, August 9 to Friday, August 11.
The roads around Stirling are set to host the time trial events between August 9 and August 11, with the world’s top pedallers set to take part on a route covering 48 kilometres of district roads.
The Historic Scotland communication also points out that there will be no vehicle parking on the castle esplanade for 15 days: from Wednesday, August 2 until Wednesday, August 16.
It states: “We encourage visitors to use public transport where possible. If you are travelling by rail, Stirling Station is on Goosecroft Road near the city centre.
“From here, the castle can be reached on foot or by bus. Stirling Bus Station is also within walking distance of the castle.
“If you are travelling by car, you can use the Castleview park and ride service (get off at the Old Town Jail, a five-minute walk from the castle entrance).
“Please note the Park and Ride is closed on Sundays. There is plenty of city centre parking available a short walk away from the castle, including multi-storey at The Thistles Shopping Centre and Wellgreen car park.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
Last month Gargunnock villagers criticised the level of consultation over a series of road closures for the UCI Cycling World Championships.
In response a Stirling Council spokesperson said: “The UCI Cycling World Championships’ Individual Time Trials in Stirling will be part of the biggest cycling event in history, watched by an anticipated one billion global TV audience.
“All the event partners, including emergency services, are fully committed to engaging with communities impacted by the time trials to provide resilient support, minimise disruption and ensure as many residents and businesses as possible can make the most of the opportunities from this unprecedented sporting event.
“Letters have been issued to all residents and businesses along the race routes by the event partners while relevant community councils and community groups have also been contacted.
“Community drop-in sessions have been held with impacted communities, including in Gargunnock, and more are planned.
“Further direct communications with residents and businesses will take place in the coming weeks, which will provide more details on measures to mitigate disruption and deliver the events safely.”
