Stirling braced for snow and hail as Met Office issues weather warning

Stirling could see snow and hail, just days after the area was basking in glorious sunshine.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and hail showers which could lead to icy surfaces, with possible travel disruption.

Untreated roads could see some icy patches, as well as on pavements and cycle paths.

Some higher elevation roads may be also affected by snowfall, resulting in longer journey times.

The warning, which includes Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Perth and Kinross, is place between 8pm tonight (Wednesday) and 10am on Thursday.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Further wintry showers overnight Wednesday and early Thursday may lead to fairly widespread icy patches, particularly on untreated surfaces.

“Some accumulations of snow are also possible, particularly across eastern Scotland and hillier areas of northeast England. Between 1-2cm accumulations are possible mainly above 100m, with 5cm over parts of Scotland, Northumberland and the North York Moors above 200-300m.”
