Stirling Albion boss tells players to stay focused as crucial run-in awaits

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young has warned his players to keep their eyes on the prize after a hard-fought weekend draw against East Fife.

The Stirling manager saw his side move nine points clear at the League Two summit after they played out an exciting 2-2 draw with the Fifers – while the Sons crashed to a 3-1 defeat away to Annan Athletic – at the weekend.

It means the Binos had the chance to effectively seal the title with three points at the Rock on Tuesday night - but the match fell victim to the weather for a fourth time.

Both sides had entered into the game in fine form, with Stirling’s long unbeaten run going up against East Fife’s recent surge in displays which saw manager Greig McDonald named as League Two Manager of the Month for March.

The action reflected that trend, with young winger Jack Healy opening the scoring for the Methil side before Dale Carrick’s double – the second of which being a superb overhead kick finish – had Albion in front at the break.

East Fife defender Aaron Steele ensured a share of the spoils with a second-half header, but it proved to be another fruitful afternoon for Stirling despite dropping two points.

But with the finish line looming into sight, Young said his squad were under no illusion about finishing off the task.

The manager said: “It was a hard game, but it was frustrating from our point of view about the goals we lost and we felt we had a couple of chances to maybe get the third.

“They played well and passed it about well and we have to combat that. It was another big effort because we’ve had a lot of games in the last wee while and we’re Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday and then Tuesday again so we look forward to that.

“We’re disappointed in the goals we lost, we don’t stop the cross for the first and wee Jack [Healy] always seems to score against us but it was a great reaction from us to get the two goals.

“It was scrappy in the second half, I feel we could have passed it better, maybe the pitch was a bit bobbly but I felt when we were on the ball, we could do better on it.

“We’ll take the point and it’s another point gained for us. It was a better display than it was on Tuesday [against Elgin], but on Tuesday, you get the 1-0 victory so that’s the way it goes.

“We’re on eight points for this quarter, 15 points still to play for so nothing’s done and we’re not counting our chickens and not thinking we’ve done this or that, far from it."
