Still Game's Boaby the barman demands 'give us back our Winter Garden'

Still Game star Gavin Mitchell has joined Glaswegians in the fight to bring Glasgow Green's Winter Garden back to life after it was shut indefinitely in 2018.

The actor, who played Boaby the barman in the iconic show, took to social media demanding the city gets back its cultural venues.

The future of the east end attraction has been in limbo for the last five years with a petition launched back in 2018 after the venues were at risk of closure when Glasgow City Council couldn't meet the hefty £7m bill needed make the Victorian glasshouse safe.

The glasshouse adjoining People's Palace has a repair bill of £350,000 after survey work found the glass building to be structurally unsafe.

Last year, operators Glasgow Life were accused of failing to secure investment or funding for venues that form a vital part of the city's history.

Venting his frustration on Twitter, Gavin wrote: "Glasgow Green was given to the people of Glasgow 500 years ago.

"The People’s Palace celebrates our people and city, now give us back our Winter Gardens."
