Stiliyan Petrov casts Celtic transfer prediction as he says Hoops will get key deal 'over the line' for huge favourite

Celtic legend Stiliyan Petrov says his former club have to ensure they strike a deal with Benfica to turn Jota's loan permanent as part of their summer transfer business.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has already struck a long-term deal for centre-back Cameron Carter Vickers who impressed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur during their 2021/22 Premiership title winning campaign, while Benjamin Siegrist has left Dundee United to bolster the goalkeeping department. Left-back Alexandro Bernabei is expected to join from Argentine side Lanus.

It's Jota though who fans want to see with the scarf above his head after an outstanding loan stint last season saw him score 13 goals and provide 14 assists. Both clubs have agreed a fee in the region of £6.5 million to seal his permanent return to Glasgow but as of yet, no confirmation has been provided by other club. Petrov reckons the deal needs done as a matter of urgency.

Champions League group stage football beckons after title glory in May and the former winger knows stars such as Jota are needed for them to compete on that stage.

The Bulgarian acknowledges how big an impact in particular the 23-year-old made within the Parkhead support and is confident that a transfer will be completed.

He told Sky Sports: “He was an important player last season, and he’s a huge favourite with the fans.

"I believe that they will get it over the line and he will be a part of that team again, because the excitement he brings into the team is different.

“He brings a different side when he plays to Celtic’s view altogether. So, it seems like they are going to get it over the line. But it seems like it’s not done yet.

"Ange Postecoglou takes his time to recruit players and he recruited very well last season."
