Stif has given its hard-charging Squatch a UDH-compatible drop-out upgrade and some bright new colors for 2024. The bike was originally released as the Morf’s rowdy 29er wheeled sibling, and now takes the place of Stif's best hardtail mountain bike.
Bike Perfect's senior tech writer Graham Cottingham really liked the rowdy yet playful nature of the Stif Squatch when he reviewed it last year. The good news is Stif isn't messing with the radical geometry or forgiving tubing on the Squatch V1.1, instead, it's giving the frame a little refresh with some new UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) rear dropouts.
The new bespoke investment cast dropouts mean the Squatch is now compatible with SRAM's new T-Type transmission. Even if you aren't running a SRAM transmission, UDH has the added advantage of making spares and repairs simpler and more readily available should you bash your derailleur and bend a hanger.
The Squatch will also be available in three new eye-catching colors named Fruit Salad (pink and yellow), Glacier Mint (light blue and pink), and Black Jack (black and yellow).
Stif will sell the Squatch in two build options. The AM build has a RockShox Pike Select+ 130mm, SRAM NX Eagle 12spd groupset, SRAM Guide T (200mm / 180mm) brakes, and DT Swiss 370 laced to WTB KOM Trail i30 rims. The Pro build gets a RockShox Pike Ultimate 130mm, SRAM GX Eagle 12spd groupset, SRAM G2 RSC (200mm / 180mm) brakes, and Hope Pro 4’s laced to WTB KOM Trail i30 rims.
Both builds get finished with Burgtec handlebars, stem, saddle, and pedals. Both bikes are fitted out with Maxxis Minions 2.6in DHR EXO+ & DHF 3C.
The frameset will retail for £749 on its own, If you want a full build they are priced at £2,499 for the AM kit and £3,199 for the the PRO kit.
