Stewartry Sirens cemented top slot in the national league division one cruising to victory in their top of the table clash at Biggar.
It was the first time the two clubs had met and promised of a cracking match.
The gloomy rain soaked afternoon, however, played it’s part with handling errors on boths sides courtesy of the steady drizzle as Sirens showed their strength with powerful scrummaging taking the ball against the head on more than one occasion.
Biggar were quick to get in over the ball at the rucks resulting in the Sirens being penalised but they could not utilise the advantage.
The opening try was engineered by the Sirens midfield working the ball to centre Phaedra Snailham who touched down for the first of her hat-trick, Lisa Ritchie converting.
Five minutes later an action replay saw the same players increase the lead to 14-0.
Biggar identified where their problems were and started to punch holes in the Sirens defence with their big pack, resulting in a try out wide to make it 14-5.
Soon after the Sirens lost winger Jazmin Cain with a dislocated shoulder after a tackle attempt saw her arm slip over the Biggar players shoulder,
The break in play disrupted the Biggar attack and just before half time Snailham managed to go over in the corner from close range making it 19-5 at half time.
After the break the Sirens forwards took the game by the scruff of the neck and the fourth try came from a well set up driving maul after a lineout with Tamsin Tyeson touching down.
The Sirens had Biggar pinned in their own half and the pressure paid off with Lizzie Ballentine crashing through bodies to score the fifth.
Young Prop Freya Gracie stole the ball from a ruck leaving only the fullback to beat.
With a lovely chip over her head it was a foot race to the ball but the referee judged that the fullback had touched down first to prevent the try.
Try number six eventually came when flanker Clare Barnes went over in front of the posts, Ritchie adding the extras.
The seventh came from a well worked move by the backs and winger DJ Birkhead scored in the corner.
The tired Sirens defence managed to keep the onslaught at bay for a resounding 41-5 win that moves them nine points clear at the top of the league with 29 points out of a possible 30.
