Two club gymnasts travelled to Cumbernauld on Sunday, March 5 for Jump Gymnastics Club’s annual Pre Grades competition.
This was seven-year-old Meadow McLachlan and 10-year-old Mia Kerr’s first experience in the competition, aimed at gymnasts who wish to take part in Scottish Grades later in the year in order to prepare them for the event.
This was also their first time competing on all four pieces of equipment, with an added piece called Range and Conditioning.
Meadow was entered in Grade 6 in age category and had a superb day picking up many accolades. She was awarded fourth place for her lovely beam routine, a bronze medal for floor and a gold medal for her performance on vault.
Mia was also entered in Grade 6 but took part in the out of age category. Mia had an exceptional day, picking up medals on nearly every piece. She was awarded silver on floor, gold on vault, gold on beam, gold on bars and finished first overall, taking home a trophy as Grade 6 out of age champion. Bars in particular was a highlight, she showed such incredible strength and control throughout her routine.
Head coach Megan Bennington said: “We are all incredibly proud of how committed the girls have been with training towards this event. Grades competitions are about precision and technique. Mia and Meadow really rose to the challenge and I am excited to take them to Scottish Grades in a couple of months time.”
