Stewart Bevan dead: Doctor Who actor who starred alongside Jon Pertwee dies at 73

Doctor Who star Stewart Bevan has died at the age of 73.

Tributes for the "beautiful husband and father" flooded in following the sad news.

Stewart was known for playing Professor Clifford Jones alongside Jon Pertwee's third Doctor in 1973.

His sad death was confirmed today by his former co-star and ex-partner Katy Manning.

She posted on social media: "The most beautiful man poet actor screenwriter husband & father to @CoralBevan @Misswendybevan went on his awfully big adventure.

"He was the love in my life for many years on & off screen & our wonderful friendship continued to the end."

Stewart starred in six episodes of the hit sci-fi show's 10th series as a Welsh biologist who helped the Doctor defeat an evil oil plant.

He starred alongside Katy, who at the time was playing the Doctor's companion Jo Grant.

One fan who remembered their episodes together fondly responded to Katy: "Oh Katy. So sorry to see this. Jo and the Prof were so well matched on screen and it was so lovely to see you still so close after all those years. Much love to Stewart's family, and of course to you."

While another fan posted: "Ah so sad to hear about Stewart Bevan! Clearly such a wonderful man, and so proud to be a part of #DoctorWho!"

And a Doctor Who fan account wrote: "So sorry to hear that Stewart Bevan, Professor Jones himself has passed away. Stewart was a very fine actor and an amazingly lovely person to meet. Sending all my love and deepest condolences to @CoralBevan @Misswendybevan and @ManningOfficial xx"

Stewart had many other acting credits to his name and will also be remembered for his roles in TV shows like Emmerdale and movies including Brannigan and House of Mortal Sin.
