Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum recently shared insights on Steven Tyler's future in touring following a charity concert appearance. Sorum revealed that despite Tyler's performance at the Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party benefiting his charity Janie’s Fund, the legendary singer won't be embarking on a tour again.
Sorum explained that Tyler, who sustained a larynx injury last year, faced significant challenges during his recent singing engagement. The drummer emphasized that due to the physical toll and pressure of a full worldwide tour, Tyler, at 77 years old, has decided to step back from extensive touring commitments.
Last August, Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring after over 50 years, citing Tyler's vocal injury as a key factor. The band acknowledged Tyler's unparalleled vocal talent and the extensive efforts he made to recover from his injury, ultimately leading to the difficult decision to retire from touring.
Sorum highlighted Tyler's commitment to authenticity in his performances, noting that the singer refuses to prerecord his voice or alter song keys like many other artists.
