Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg is set to direct a highly anticipated new film featuring actors Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt. The as-yet-untitled 'event film' is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026, as confirmed by Universal Pictures.
While specific details about the project remain under wraps, it is known that the story is based on an original concept by Spielberg himself. The screenplay is being crafted by David Koepp, known for his work on blockbuster hits like 'Jurassic Park,' 'War of the Worlds,' and 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.' The star-studded cast will also include Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, and Eve Hewson.
The summer of 2026 is shaping up to be a season filled with major cinematic releases. Alongside Spielberg's upcoming film, audiences can look forward to other highly anticipated titles such as 'Avengers: Doomsday' (May 1), 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' (May 22), 'Toy Story 5' (June 19), 'The Odyssey' (July 17), and 'Spider-Man 4' (July 24).
Previously, Universal had slated a new project from the Oscar-winning duo behind 'Everything Everywhere All At Once,' Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, for release on June 12. However, a new release date for their untitled film will be announced in due course.
It is worth noting that Universal Pictures was also behind Spielberg's most recent film, 'The Fabelmans,' which premiered in 2022 and garnered seven Oscar nominations.
