Steven Naismith named St Mirren next manager contender as former Rangers and Hearts star enters the frame

Steven Naismith is reportedly under consideration to succeed Jim Goodwin at St Mirren.

The Buddies are on the hunt for a new manager after Goodwin's departure for Aberdeen was confirmed on Saturday.

Record Sport revealed on Friday night that Saints had been granted permission to speak to Dons captain Scott Brown over the vacancy.

The legendary Celtic skipper has been joined in the running by his former Scotland team-mate Naismith, according to The Scottish Sun.

Ex-Kilmarnock, Rangers, Hearts and Everton striker Naismith remains at Tynecastle following his on-pitch retirement, working as a coach in the club's youth academy.

The 35-year-old has picked up coaching experience as part of Steve Clarke's setup with the national team.

Jack Ross, out of work since leaving Hibs, is also believed to be in the running for a return to Paisley.

Ross lifted Saints from the brink of relegation to League One all the way to the Premiership in less than two years before earning a move to Sunderland in 2017.

Former Buddies striker Steven McGarry - a coach at Australian side Perth Glory - is also claimed to be a contender, alongside ex-Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati.
