Steven Gerrard seals Rangers reunion as former Ibrox ace Firth joins Al-Ettifaq

Steven Gerrard has sealed a Rangers reunion at Al-Ettifaq after the Saudi club announced Andy Firth has joined as assistant goalkeeping coach.

The former Ibrox stopper was named assistant goalkeeping coach by the Saudi Pro League club on Saturday evening after John Achenbeisg was announced as head coach for the goalkeepers.

Firth, 27, worked under Gerrard at Rangers and knew the manager from his time at Liverpool.

After leaving Rangers, Firth signed for Welsh side Connah's Quay Nomads where he played 32 times last season.

However, it appears Firth will transition into full-time coaching with the surprise announcement naming him in a backroom position in Saudi Arabia.

The post confirming the news on X, formerly Twitter, read: "Andy Firth, assistant goalkeeping coach.

"Welcome to the Nawakhatha Brigade."

Firth had combined his playing responsibilities at Connah's Quay with a role as a coach in the Liverpool academy before the move to Al-Ettifaq.

The goalkeeper had been offered a similar role in coaching at Rangers when he headed for the exit door in 2022 but opted against remaining in Glasgow.

Firth played just seven minutes for Rangers during his three-year stay at Ibrox.
