Steven Gerrard's strict rules leaked as former Rangers boss gets tough at Aston Villa over birthday cakes and flip flops

The rules Steven Gerrard has put in place at Aston Villa for next season have emerged with the former Rangers boss handing out punishments for missed birthday celebrations and missing flip flops.

The Liverpool legend brought a momentous three-and-a-half year stint at Ibrox to an end last November to take a shot at the Premier League with the struggling Villians, and steered the club clear of the relegation spots. The Scottish Premiership-winning boss has splashed the cash on a permanent transfer for Philippe Coutinho and other high-profile acquisitions such as Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara as he looks to climb the table next term.

But it's not just the transfer business that has been dominating the agenda at Villa Park with a leaked document showing the new rules Gerrard is introducing behind the scenes next term. The punishments range from £50 to £1000 with Gerrard running a tight ship at Villa.

Being late for a team meeting, walk or coach will set players back the highest amount of £1000, but running late in general could prove to be the most expensive exercise with fines of £200 a minute being dished out. A red card will also land a hefty fine with the offender ordered to take the entire Villa team out for a meal within four weeks of the receiving their marching orders.

On the opposite end of the scale, forgetting recovery leggings will land players a £50 slap on the wrist. Forgetting a teammates’ birthday cake will also set players back £50.

Not wearing flip flops in the shower will also see players hit with an £100 sanction, the same as leaving cutlery at the table in the canteen. Tobacco being found anywhere on the premises will also land players a £200 penalty.
