Aston Villa's players were subject to fierce fines prior to Steven Gerrard's arrival at the club.
Gerrard has been in charge at Villa Park since November 2021, but was only able to guide them to a disappointing 14th place finish in the Premier League. Soon after his arrival, the Liverpool icon banned ketchup. But it appears a whole host of fines were implemented long before him.
That is according to a leaked fines list, which shows any break of rules will deal a heavy blow to a player's bank account.
The list is split into two columns, one for what the offence was and the second for the fine that it carried. At the top is turning up late to training, which would see a player fined £500, while being late to the pitch itself would see a player fined £200 per minute.
It appears there was a low tolerance for late comers, with those who do not turn up on time for a meeting, walk or the coach on matchday forking out £1,000 in punishment. Being late for the coach or a meeting on non-matchdays led to a fine of £200 per minute.
Players looking correct as well as being on time was seemingly important too, with a fine for wearing the 'wrong attire' on matchday being £100 per item. Leaving kit on the training pitch carried the same punishment, while failing to wear flip flops in the shower cost a player another £100.

A former Villa boss was also big on discipline and manners, with those who left plates or cups at the dining table paying out £100. That same fine was handed out to anyone who parked illegally, whether they were at football or on their personal time.
There were also heavy punishments for those who fall foul of referees, with a booking leading to a £200 fine. Team bonding had been injected into the fines list, though, with anyone who is sent off required to take the whole team out for dinner within four weeks of their red card.
Team bonding can also be seen in the fine for forgetting cakes on a player's birthday, which will see the culprit pay £50.
Failing to report a new injury or illness to the team doctor by 10am carried a £200 fine, as did being late for treatment by the physio. One of the lowest fines on the list is forgetting recovery leggings, which saw a player fined £50.
The final item on the fines list will have caused embarrassment rather than a hit the bank accounts like the others. That item is being voted the worst player in training the day before a game, which saw a player forced to wear a jumper that says 'I was the worst trainer' the following week.
