Steven Gerrard reveals Aston Villa target ahead of Man City game that may decide Liverpool title race

Steven Gerrard insists his Aston Villa will 'give everything' when they take on Manchester City in the final Premier League game of the season.

The former Liverpool captain can have a huge say in the title race, but admitted all focus for him is on his current club. The Villa boss was beaten by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side on Tuesday night at Villa Park, but took the lead after three minutes.

Joel Matip levelled the game shortly after before Sadio Mane headed in the winner in the second half to move level with City at the top of the league.

Gerrard 's target for his Villa side is to finish inside the top 10, and, with just three games remaining, avoiding defeat at the Etihad on the final day may be needed to secure that goal.

Asked about Villa's remaining fixtures, Gerrard said last night: "We will wait and see what situation we are in come the end of the season. We have got a purpose for this season and trying to push for the top ten, and put ourselves there, it has got to be about us.

"We have to give a good performance against Crystal Palace and then take that into Burnley, and let's hope we can put ourselves in a good place ahead of City but, we will show up for the next three games and give everything that we can."

Assessing the Villa performance against Liverpool, Gerrard said: "Possibly we should have got more but we have to take the big moments we create in the game. We are frustrated we didn’t score more than once. The big positive for me was that we were ambitious, brave, courageous and went toe-to-toe against one of the best teams in the world."
