Rangers will never be a club Steven Gerrard manages again, according to Barry Ferguson.
The former Light Blues boss has been football's biggest talking point on Friday after Aston Villa sacked him following a 3-0 Premier League defeat to Fulham on Thursday. It puts him out a job less than a year after leaving Ibrox, where he brought the Premiership title back to Govan in 2021.
It was put to club hero and Record Sport columnist Ferguson on Go Radio whether or not Gerrard could make a shock return to Glasgow amid debate on current Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's future, but the former midfielder's reply was emphatic. He said: "No chance, I don't think that will happen. No way. He's left and he's went elsewhere. He's gone to Aston Villa and unfortunately it has not worked out for him. I look at it from a Rangers point of view.
"It was a building process with Gerrard. I thought he did a brilliant job at Rangers but I just can't see that happening. I don't know (if fans would take him back).
"I know a lot of them were unhappy that he left in the first place so it would be 50-50. You would need to ask people's opinions."
