Steven Gerrard outlines how 'tough' Leeds United will have changed under Jesse Marsch

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is anticipating a different challenge from Leeds United as Jesse Marsch prepares for his first home game in charge.

The two teams battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture at Villa Park last month, which proved to be the final point Marcelo Bielsa collected during his tenure at the club.

However, the Whites have since parted ways with the Argentine following a thumping 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur and appointed Marsch as the new first-team manager.

Although Leeds fell to a 1-0 defeat at Leicester City in Marsch's first game at the helm, there were many positives to take from the performance and created a number of chances to take something away from the King Power Stadium.

The Whites looked more fluid through the middle of the pitch and were better defensively, limiting Leicester to very few clear-cut opportunities. And Gerrard is expecting a tough test from a new-look Leeds side.

He said in his pre-match press conference: "Tactically, you’ll see a change – you’ll have seen that in the game against Leicester. Marcelo Bielsa was very unique, as in certain areas of the pitch he’d go man-to-man and players would get followed in different positions.

"You also heard about different training regimes that they’d practice and try to back up in the games. I’m sure Jesse will want to put his own stamp on things.

"You could see at the weekend that there were slight changes, in terms of tactics. Personnel-wise, it won’t be too much different. We know we’re in for a tough game. Watching Leeds at the weekend, they could have quite easily have got something out of the game.

"They were very dangerous going forward and we know they’ve got great attacking players. They didn’t give too much away the other end either, so there was an improvement from afar.

"I’m sure he’ll be wanting to get the Elland Road crowd right behind him, it’s his first home game. We have to be ready and prepared for that. It’s got all the makings of being a fantastic game."
