Steven Gerrard offers clue over transfer business amid potential Rangers raid

Steven Gerrard has offered an insight into what he's looking for as he aims to tackle his third transfer window as Al Ettifaq manager.

And it seems that Rangers players James Tavernier and Connor Goldson fit the bill.

The former Ibrox boss is desperate to add some much-needed experience to his side as they aim to give a better fist of things in the Saudi Pro-League next season, with the club languishing in sixth position despite a hefty outlay on players last year.

It was previously reported that both players were on the wishlist of the hierarchy at Ettifaq after Gerrard's recommendation.

Philippe Clement has already stated his desire to keep hold of both men, with the Ibrox stalwarts set to play a major role in the club's future under the Belgian.

However, Gerrard may test the resolve of his former club with an offer or two this summer, as he seeks the 'knowledge' of more experienced pros ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Speaking to media outlet Asharq, Gerrard said: "We will evaluate the situation and identify the strengths and weaknesses. We must be prepared to meet what the team needs to appear better. We realise that our team has developed, but there is a lot of work.

“We are building a good team, and we seek to enter the summer transfer market in a way that makes us the best in the Saudi League, as we did in the last transfer market, where our signings were reasonable and very strategic.

“Knowledge must be transferred to the Saudi League so we need experience. That is what I also want to do while I am here, but there are things that Saudi players must do to improve. There is a lot of work that must be done.”
