Steven Gerrard names current Manchester United player he'd love to play alongside

Steven Gerrard has admitted there is a current Manchester United player he would have loved to play with during his playing career.

Gerrard of course established himself as one of the great players in the Premier League era during his time at Liverpool. The former midfielder spent 17 years as a professional at Anfield, during which time he helped them to nine trophies, including the 2005 Champions League.

During his time as a player, he played alongside some other big names at both club and international level. Gerrard’s name regularly features in the conversation about the Premier League’s greatest midfielder, alongside Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard, having played with both for England.

Having now turned his hand to management, Gerrard still keeps a close eye on the biggest names among the current generation of players. Having become Aston Villa boss in November, he’s been coming up against some of the world’s best players while facing the likes of his old club and Manchester City.

When asked by Gary Neville during his Overlap series which current players he would love to play alongside, unsurprisingly a couple of Liverpool stars and a City ace featured. Gerrard though also reserved some praise for one of United’s players.

"Mo Salah," Gerrard answered immediately when asked which one current star he would love to join on the pitch.

"I love Bruno Fernandes, I know you might not agree with that but I like him.

"Kevin De Bruyne for sure, 100 per cent. I think he's one of the best in the world right now. And defensive-wise, I think Virgil [van Dijk] is just out of this world."
