Steven Gerrard believes it might be time for Harry Kane to "move on" after the Tottenham striker became England's leading scorer - with Manchester United interested.
Kane, 29, scored his 54th senior goal for England to overtake Wayne Rooney's record. The Three Lions skipper achieved the feat from the penalty spot - just three months after he missed a penalty in England's quarter-final defeat to France at the World Cup in Qatar.
Kane is yet to win the first major honour of his career, with Gerrard urging him to seek a transfer. That is interesting, as Gerrard refused to leave Liverpool in pursuit of trophies during his career. The former England captain famously never won a Premier League title.
Speaking to Channel 4 at half-time, Gerrard said, "It’s an incredible penalty, it’s precise, takes the side-netting off. He’s one of the best penalty-takers in the world, that’s why it was such a surprise what happened to him in the World Cup.
"But you’re talking about greatness, you’re talking about one of the best number nines in the world right now and that’s the reason why every transfer window he’s ahead in terms of all the talks because, you know, maybe it is time, maybe it is time for him to move on."
Kane has come close to winning silverware at Tottenham. He was part of the side that reached the League Cup final in 2015 and 2021, as well as the Champions League final in 2019. Kane also helped Spurs finish second in the Premier League during the 2016/17 term.

Gerrard went on to say, "Incredible moment, ironically coming in the form of a penalty but he deserves that. You can see in his pre-match interview he was so determined to make up for that penalty miss in the summer - sorry, the winter.
"But his all-round play has been fantastic and I’m so pleased for him - congratulations, and a special mention to Wayne Rooney because he’s a phenomenon as well."
Kane was appointed England's captain aged 24 in the summer of 2018, shortly before the World Cup in Russia. He went on to lead the Three Lions to the semi-finals of that tournament - winning the Golden Boot - before helping them reach the final of Euro 2020.
Joe Cole added, "It’s redemption for him, you can’t help but admire him, like him, respect him, and he stands alone on top of that chart. The names that are underneath him - Wayne Rooney, Bobby Charlton - unbelievable names. It’s fantastic for him, what a moment."
Speaking ahead of Thursday night's game, Gareth Southgate insisted Kane would be motivated by his miss against France. The England manager told reporters, "We have seen in his performances for his club he has put it behind him.
"I know he will have added motivation to come back and show everyone what he is about again in an England shirt."
