Steven Gerrard makes Harry Kane trophy claim amid Tottenham star's links to Man City and Man Utd

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard believes lifting a trophy with Tottenham will mean more to Harry Kane than winning one with another club. Taking the Premier League by storm since becoming a regular in Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs side, the England captain has been linked with a big-money move away from north London.

Heavily tipped to seal a transfer to Man City last summer but instead remaining in the capital with a deal not coming to fruition, talk over Kane's Spurs future doesn't look set to end any time soon. Tipped to swap Liverpool for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea during his own career, Gerrard himself feels that Kane can find happiness at Tottenham rather than opting for a short-term fix.

"I admire his loyalty to Tottenham and, of course, I’m sure it’s been tempting for him on many occasions to go and take one of those options," Gerrard explained in his pre-match press conference (via The Independent). "The Spurs fans should enjoy him and admire the loyalty he’s given them. You can see a guy who is desperate for success with Tottenham and I have a lot of admiration for that.

"He might still have the opportunity to achieve a couple of things in his career which might mean more to him with Tottenham than anyone else because of what Tottenham have also given the player. That’s what it boiled down to with me. The decision was, yes I could go to three or four teams in a foreign country or a couple domestically who maybe have a better chance of winning.

"But winning something with your team, the one you love and the supporters you love, I think that will mean more to him for the rest of his life than a short-term fix."

Kane may not have been on the scoresheet last weekend against Newcastle United but he has been in top form for Tottenham recently both in terms of scoring and creating chances. Forming such a good attack with Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski since the latter joined from Juventus, Gerrard knows his defence are going to be in for a very tough afternoon as they look to try and nullify the "unstoppable" frontman.

"He’s world class. He’s been very loyal to Tottenham, in my opinion. We need to make sure we’re very diligent and set up right to control him. He’s one of very few players on the planet that when he’s at it, he’s unstoppable," he added (via HITC).

"He’s that level of player. He has good back-up, in terms of the other forward players around him – Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski. We need to be right at it tomorrow, from a defensive point of view."
