Steven Gerrard looking to sign 'Erik ten Hag target' and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Steven Gerrard is ready to compete with Manchester United to sign Boubacar Kamara during the summer transfer window, according to reports. Erik ten Hag was confirmed as United's new permanent manager on Thursday morning as attention now turns to the players he could look to recruit.

Having missed out on a top-level defensive midfielder last summer, those responsible for incomings and outgoings will prioritise that position when the market reopens. However, after drawing up a possible shortlist, Ten Hag holds a right to veto any options that come his way.

Declan Rice has long since been viewed as a target and United are also working on a deal for his England teammate Kalvin Phillips. Other names continue to be mentioned, such as Kamara.

Into the final months of his contract, the Marseille starlet has emerged as one of the most sought-after defensive midfielders in Europe. Aston Villa are now understood to have joined the race for the 22-year-old.

A report from RMC Sport (via Sport Witness) suggests Villa are the frontrunners to sign Kamara after Gerrard jetted out to France to watch the player in action. Kamara has played 163 matches for Marseille and has been capped nine times by France U21s.

Elsewhere, Paul Pogba's representatives are in talks with Juventus and Real Madrid over a summer move. Pogba will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer for the second time this summer - a decade on from his initial switch to Italy. Sky Sports have outlined those talks.

The 29-year-old won a league title in all of his four seasons at Juventus before returning to United for what was then a record £89m. Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be in the race for Pogba who, after picking up an injury in the heavy defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night, could have played his last game for the club.
