Steven Gerrard in transfer reset amid Calvin Bassey and Luis Suarez interest as he returns to TV role

Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard was in position to watch his former club being put through their paces ahead of the Champions League Final.

And it's likely a welcome pause amid the Aston Villa manager's bonkers start to the season which has led to the signings of Philipe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos.

Villa are hell-bent on competing higher up the table in the English Premier League next season and their signing salvo is a statement of their intent.

And Rangers standout Calvin Bassey, valued at £25m by the Ibrox side could be next on a wishlist which also includes Gerrard's former Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez.

Bassey is a wanted man after his thrilling displays in the final weeks of Rangers' marathon season that led them all the way to the Europa League Final.

Gerrard has been able to briefly pause this weekend as he returns to the BT Sport studio to provide punditry from his old team's Champions League Final showdown with Real Madrid in Paris.

And he was watching on during Friday's session as he was pictured in the Stade De France mulling over the action.

Speaking on the club’s official social media channels having travelled over to Paris, he said: “You can feel the atmosphere building. I’d like to wish everyone at Liverpool the best of luck, and I hope they get the outcome that everyone wants.

“I’m getting excited for the game and the fans are building up nicely outside the stadium. Hopefully it’ll be a fantastic game and I predict a 2-0 Liverpool win.”
