Steven Gerrard in running for Leicester City job after Leeds United manager talks

Leicester City are considering making Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard their new boss as they look for a way back to the Premier League next season.

The Foxes, who were relegated to the Championship on the final day of the campaign, are holding talks to appoint a manager on a permanent basis after Dean Smith failed to save the former Premier League winners.

Ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was sacked as Leicester manager in April and replaced on a temporary basis by Smith. But despite that change, the Foxes followed Leeds United and Southampton into the second tier.

And the Daily Mail report that they are now considering Gerrard, who they state has also held talks with Leeds, who are also without a manager after they decided against appointing Sam Allardyce on a full-time basis.

Gerrard was sacked from his role at Aston Villa in October. At the time they were struggling toward the foot of the table but, under his replacement Unai Emery, they climbed up the table and on the last day of the season qualified for the Europa Conference League.

Gerrard, who has been working as a pundit, led Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade, and winning 125 of his 193 matches in charges before moving to Villa.

The Mail claim that along with Gerrard, former Fulham and Bournemouth boss Scott Parker and ex-Juventus midfielder Enzo Maresca, who is currently part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City, are also under consideration by Leicester.
