Manchester United have been warned by Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard that star man John McGinn is not for sale.
Reports surfaced earlier this week suggesting United were looking at McGinn as a possible signing to help bolster their midfield.
The centre of the park has long been a problem position for United this season, despite the improving form of Scott McTominay and Fred.
When asked today about the rumours linking the Scot to Old Trafford, his manager Gerrard was adamant that McGinn will remain a Villa player.
"We are certainly not a club that is looking to sell. Our intention is to keep John McGinn here," the former Liverpool man said.
"We don’t want to be a selling club unless there is a situation, as with [Jack] Grealish [to Manchester City], which works itself out if you like.
"We want [McGinn] to remain a Villa player and we can’t be any clearer on that. We love the player, we love the human being and we want to help him.
"We certainly see it as a compliment when our best players, or any of our players, are linked with big moves away. I think it shows they are playing at a consistent level."
United's focus remains on the Premier League this weekend when they face a big encounter with West Ham in the race for the Champions League.
