Steven Gerrard admits hearing Aston Villa 's furious fans turn on him at Craven Cottage was hard to take.
A section of travelling supporters chanted "we want Gerrard out" and " Steven Gerrard, get out of our club" as their side went down 3-0 to Fulham on Thursday night. Villa had Douglas Luiz sent off in the second-half and conceded a hotly-contested penalty but their overall performance was meek on a night where they badly needed a result.
Villa have won just one of their last eight Premier League fixtures and sit above the Premier League relegation zone only on goals scored. That form has piled the pressure on Gerrard and proved the final straw for an away section who furiously demanded the former Rangers boss be removed from his post. And while the ex-Liverpool captain confessed listening to their anger was "tough", he accepts it's a frustration that is justified.
Gerrard said on Amazon Prime: "It's tough but I'm a man and I accept it. I understand it, I can feel their frustration and I'm frustrated with them. It was a tough night for me, personally."
Gerrard was then asked whether he could still turn an increasingly dire situation around. And while he vowed not to quit in the face of adversity, he swerved giving the question a definitive answer.
He added: "Look, we'll see what happens. I understand the situation we're in. I'm a fighter, I'll never, ever quit - certainly when it comes to football or anything in life.
"We'll see what happens moving forward."
