Steven Gerrard answers "integrity" question as Liverpool look for Aston Villa favour

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has reassured fans that they will not have to worry about his integrity when his side make the trip to Manchester City on Sunday.

Villa travel to Manchester knowing that while a win, though impressive, would do little more than take them up a few places into mid-table. Were Gerrard's team to topple Pep Guardiola's men though, it could in theory help hand his former club Liverpool a second Premier League title in three seasons.

The Reds currently sit one point behind City going into the final day of the campaign. Jurgen Klopp has already explained how his troops can only focus on the task at hand which comes in the form of a home clash against Wolves, but fans will undoubtedly let them know if Villa spring a surprise at the Etihad.

Even if Villa hold City to a draw at their home, it could be enough to mean Liverpool win the title and remain on course for the most historic achievement English football has ever seen - an unprecedented quadruple.

Gerrard has already faced his former side when Liverpool visited Villa Park and though they came away with the win, the hosts made life incredibly difficult. In turn, any suggestion that Gerrard could be inclined to take it easy on a club so close to his heart was duly quashed.

Pressed for comment as to whether he would approach the upcoming City game in the same way, the Villa manager told beIN Sports: "I don't think you ever have to worry about integrity when you are talking to me, or any of our players or Aston Villa.

"I don't think that word or that question is fair because we are going to do everything we can to fight for the three points that are available." Gerrard had explained the aim for his side on Sunday during the question prior.

"We will look to make it as difficult as we can [for Man City], we know they have got world class players and a world class manager but our form is pretty good on the road," he added.

"We will try to be as organised as we can and make it as difficult as we can but there is three points to play for from our point of view and we want to fight for every single one of them."

It would only heighten Gerrard's legendary status at Anfield if his Villa side were able to force City into a final day slip-up.
