Steven Fletcher didn’t leave the house after his penalty miss against Killie but he’s convinced Dundee United won’t be going
out of the Premiership.
The Tannadice side remain bottom of the pile after going down 3-1 at Hearts to make it three defeats in a week. Fletcher was glad to banish his spot-kick blues with a goal in Gorgie but he admitted results and misses still hurt despite all his years in the game.
The Scotland star said: “I was disappointed on Wednesday night. I didn’t leave the house the next day. A missed penalty is a hard one. I didn‘t see my wee boy after the game because he was in bed. But he came in from school the next day and said, ‘I feel sorry for you’. I said, ‘Don’t feel sorry for me! I’m all right, don’t worry’. I think he got more stick in school than I did. The kids weren’t happy with me but I said, ‘I’m not leaving. I can’t take it!’. But it was nice to get on the scoresheet and I probably should have had another, which was unfortunate.”

good to go down, it’s a dangerous attitude to have for players.
“Of course,” added Fletcher. “We are not daft. We know the position we are in. As long as we keep putting in performances...
“First and foremost, we need to play well. We can’t look to nick a win here and there. We need to play good football because good football produces results.”
Boss Liam Fox raged against Edwards’ red but Fletcher knew his team-mate was taking a huge risk taking ball and man.
He said: “We started the game well and we were the better team for the first 25 minutes. But going down to 10 men killed us. The boys are not downbeat. We are upbeat because when we play we play good football. We held ourselves for good parts of that game and we will keep doing what we are doing. I think 3-1 was a bit flattering.”
