Steven Davis' Rangers career could be over as he's ruled out for the rest of the season

Steven Davis' Rangers career could be over after he was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The veteran Northern Irishman missed wins over Aberdeen and Ross County after a late two-minutes cameo in Michael Beale's first match in charge against Hibs. He wasn't in the squad for the latter two fixtures however, and the Ibrox club have now confirmed that he won't feature again during the campaign.

That means he could have played his final game in light blue. Davis penned a one-year contract extension last summer, along with teammates Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield. But this season hasn't gone to plan for the former Southampton man, and it has now come to a premature end with five months of football still left to play. His game time had been limited under Gio van Bronckhorst, but would have hoped having worked with Beale before would have boosted his chances of minutes.

But that call has been taken out of the manager's hands following the latest news. The Gers are fairly well served in midfield with John Lundstram, Glen Kamara, Arfield and Ryan Jack able to operate in the engine room.

Davis is 38 in 2023 and a decision needs to be made in the summer as he is out of contract, and this may be a deciding factor. Jack is also out of contract and Arfield is also set to depart as tings stand unless he is offered a new deal.
