Steven Davis makes Leon King prediction as Rangers kid gains Champions League experience

STEVEN DAVIS has backed defender Leon King to emerge stronger from his Champions League baptism of fire this term.

The 18-year-old has become an integral part of Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side in recent weeks following injuries to Connor Goldson, Ben Davies and John Souttar.

King played in all six of the Group A encounters as Rangers were left pointless from their matches with Liverpool, Napoli and Ajax and crashed out of European action.

The blows suffered on a weekly basis were tough to stomach at Ibrox but King's emergence has offered supporters a glimmer of hope for the future.

"It’s difficult to take positives from it right now," Davis said. "But of course, it’s great that Leon has had this experience at such a young age, playing in such a key position within the team too.

"He was playing development football a year ago so he can take positives from it.

"That will go for some of the younger players who have picked up experience at this level.

"But we are all disappointed because we were desperate to get to this level.

"Once we reflect on it and identify what we need to improve then we need to park it.

"The domestic football is now the priority. We want to get back to this level and show our quality."
