Steven Davis has provided an update on Zak Lovelace after he appeared to pick up a nasty-looking injury during today's win over St Mirren.
The 17-year-old started his first league game for the Ibrox club in Paisley as interim manager Davis rewarded the youngster for his fine form with the B team.
He was instrumental in the lead-up to the first goal after he turned St Mirren's Scott Tanser inside and out before eventually a penalty was awarded to Rangers for handball by Ryan Strain.
However, the teenager had to be withdrawn from proceedings after just 40 minutes after picking up what looked to be a hamstring injury.
As he attempted to skip past Alex Gogic on the wing he immediately pulled up. Initially, it appeared that he was looking for a free kick, but replays instantly cleared up that Lovelace actually clutched the back of his left leg and that was the reason for going to the ground.
He managed to hobble off the field before receiving attention from the Rangers medical team. He was eventually stretchered off around the perimeter of the field.
Asked about the attacker, Davis insisted that the full extent of the damage will not be known until Lovelace has been sent for a scan, however, the player did feel an improvement post-match.
He said: "Firstly, I thought he was really lively, bringing that energy, power and pace that we know he's got. He brought that to the game and was causing them problems, so I'm disappointed for him.
"It's a bit of a double-edged sword for him today in terms of getting his full debut and then that happening.
"He says he's feeling a little bit better after the game but until he's assessed we'll not really know the damage."
Attention in the interview then turned to the appointment of a new manager by the club and Davis' position as interim.
Rangers play Hibernian in their next match on Saturday, October 21 at Ibrox.
He responded: "Obviously there's a couple of weeks until that game, so it gives the board a bit of time to go and work on things and to try to get somebody in place. Whether that will be the case or not, we'll just have to wait and see.
"The remit was to come in and take these two games until we get to the international break and then we'd sit down to have a chat then. That's kind of where we're at, so I'm just delighted that we got the win today."
