Steven Bergwijn makes honest transfer admission amid talk of Manchester United move

Steven Bergwijn has admitted he wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer – and has left the door open for a potential move to Manchester United.

The Dutch winger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag gets down to work on building his squad for next season. Among the areas that need addressing for United, they'll be in the market for new forward options.

Bergwijn could be in the mix for a move during the summer, with reports linking him with a move away from north London. The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular spot in Tottenham’s side since joining the club in 2020.

His task looks increasingly difficult next season with Dejan Kulusevski remaining at Spurs on loan, while Ivan Perisic has also been added to the ranks. Speaking while on international duty with the Netherlands, Bergwijn admitted he will have to look elsewhere this summer.

“It’s difficult for me,” Bergwijn told ESPN. “I play well at the national team but when I return to the club people turn a blind eye to me. I need to find a solution." When asked whether he needs to leave, Bergwijn replied: “Yes.”

As well as United, Bergwijn has been linked with a move to Ajax after they failed in their attempts to lure him back to the Eredivisie in January. The winger insisted he is keeping his options open and that he is hoping to resolve the situation in the near future.

“I said that I keep all options open. Yes, it can be other clubs too,” he said. “I just hope that things can become clear soon. It would be nice if things are clear soon, right now things are uncertain."
