Steve Smith Sr. jabs Baker Mayfield: ‘I led the league in something besides crying’

Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith Sr. isn’t the biggest Baker Mayfield fan out there. In fact, we get the feeling he isn’t a fan of him at all.

The latest hint came on Wednesday during one of Smith’s spots for the NFL Network. While speaking on the friction between the Cleveland Browns and their (at least for the time being) starting quarterback, the prolific trash talker took another not-so-subtle jab at the former No. 1 overall pick.

He’s not exactly wrong.

Prior to Cooper Kupp’s sensational 2021 campaign, Smith Sr. was the last man in league history to lead all receivers in catches, yards and touchdowns over a single season. In addition to that 2005 triple crown, he is also the Panthers’ all-time leading receiver—with almost 3,000 more yards than the next closest pass catcher in Muhsin Muhammad.

Mayfield, on the other hand, has led football in . . . uh . . . well, he’s got some pretty decent dance moves sometimes.

Those moves may be on display elsewhere in 2022, with Mayfield now looking for a way out of Cleveland following their reported interest in Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. We’re sure, however, that Smith Sr. probably won’t let up on the disgruntled passer anytime soon—wherever he is.
