Steve Kerr says Andrew Wiggins won’t play final two games of regular season

One of the highlights of the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday came when Andrew Wiggins made his long-awaited return to the bench at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Tuesday’s game marked Wiggins’ first appearance with the team since missing time due to a personal matter.

When the All-Star forward appeared on the bench, the Bay Area home crowd welcomed Wiggins back with a roaring standing ovation.

However, fans will have to wait to see Wiggins return to the Warriors rotation. On Wednesday, Steve Kerr confirmed Wiggins would not play in the final two games of the regular season in an interview with “Willard and Dibs” on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco.

Kerr revealed Wiggins scrimmaged full court five-on-five in his return to practice.

Wiggins last suited up on Feb. 13 against the Washington Wizards. During that game, the former Rookie of the Year tallied 29 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the floor with seven rebounds and four dimes in a Warriors’ win.

During the 2022-23 campaign, Wiggins is averaging 17.1 points on 47.3% shooting from the field and 39.6% from beyond the arc to go along with five rebounds and 2.3 assists in 32.2 minutes per contest over 37 games.

The Warriors only have two games left on the regular season schedule before starting a run in the playoffs. The Warriors will travel to Sacramento for a game against the Kings on Friday. The regular-season finale will take place in Portland against the Trail Blazers on Sunday.

The play-in tournament will begin on April 11 with the official playoffs starting on April 15. Wiggins will get more time to practice with his teammates and build his conditioning before making his highly-anticipated return to the court with the Warriors.
