Steve Kerr returns to Warriors after testing positive for COVID-19 last week

SAN FRANCISCO – Steve Kerr returned to coach the Warriors Sunday after he tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

Kerr cleared the NBA’s health and safety protocols this weekend after he missed the Warriors’ last three games due to COVID-19. During that span, Golden State went 2-1 with Mike Brown at the helm and advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in three years.

Kerr, who is fully vaccinated, described his symptoms as “mild,” adding that he felt congested. He said he started to develop symptoms hours before Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals series last week, which prompted him to get tested.

Kerr started wearing a mask before Game 3 on May 7 and continued to sport one during media availability and at practice over the course of the following days. His voice sounded hoarse over the last couple of days.

Brown, who was named the next head coach of the Sacramento Kings last week, is 13-1 in the postseason while filling in for Kerr.
