Steve Kerr reiterates there’s no timeline for a Draymond Green return

Steve Kerr isn’t working on a timeline for when Draymond Green will return to the Golden State Warriors rotation. The veteran head coach discussed his star forward’s current suspension during an appearance on the “Willard and Dibs” show for 95.7 The Game. He noted how the front office has been dealing with the league while he’s remained focused on coaching the team.

Green, 33, was suspended indefinitely following multiple on-court altercations to begin the season. He has already missed 10 games, and an immediate return doesn’t appear to be on the horizon. This is Green’s second suspension of the season, having missed five games in November following his altercation with Rudy Gobert.

“I don’t know that there was ever any timeline given,” Kerr said. “When someone is suspended indefinitely, that means they’re suspended indefinitely. … We’re just going along with the process. As I said, I’m just busy with the team, and Draymond is going along with his process. And the league will work with us, and we’ll see where it all goes.”

Kerr elaborated on those comments, providing more detail on why Green is working away from the team but continuing to work out and remain in shape for his eventually return.

“I think it was generally understood that he needed to work on some things. So I think you look at it in that lens, it’s understandable that work would be away from the team. He’s been working out so he’s still training and keeping himself in shape.”

Green’s absence has given Jonathan Kuminga an opportunity to step into a starting role. When he returns from his suspension, he could have a battle on his hands to reclaim his place in the starting rotation. However, that competition for places is a good thing and could be what brings the best out in Green, which, in turn, will bring the best out in Golden State.
