Steve Kerr jokingly details why he went to Steph Curry against Suns

The Golden State Warriors overcame the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. Steph Curry made headlines by hitting the game-winner in the dying seconds of the game. Of course, for Warriors fans, that was nothing new. Steph has been enjoying those moments for the majority of his career; it’s part of what he brings to the roster.

When speaking to the media after the game, Steve Kerr was asked why he went to Curry in that moment. As such, he jokingly replied that he’s a genius for having the foresight to give one of the greatest shooters in NBA history the ball down the stretch.

“I’m a really smart guy, you know?” Kerr said. “No one else thought of it, so I went into the huddle and I said maybe we should throw the ball to Steph. And everyone else was like ‘oh yeah, that’s a really good idea.” Jordan, Duncan, Steph, just get the ball to those guys and you’re going to win a lot.”

The tongue-in-cheek moment was humorous. It’s clear everyone expects Curry to get the ball in the clutch moments. And for the most part, he’s expected to deliver. However, those expectations allow teams to plan for when Curry has the ball in the final seconds of a game. The pressure is always at its highest.

Nevertheless, Curry continues to find a way. He has hit multiple game-winners this season and will likely hit more before the champion is crowned later this year.

Seeing Kerr acting so jovially is a great sign. It likely means he’s comfortable with the team is direction, and that can only be a good thing. The Warriors are 6-1 in their last seven games. There’s a lot for fans to be excited about.
