Steve Kerr impressed by Chris Paul’s ability to limit turnovers

Chris Paul snapped out of his cold start to the season as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Detroit Pistons on Monday. The veteran guard scored 17 points, dished 6 assists and grabbed five rebounds. While Paul’s scoring will be encouraging for the Warriors, his playmaking once again impressed Steve Kerr.

During his postgame press conference, Kerr discussed Paul’s ability to take care of the ball while creating scoring opportunities for his teammates. Paul has 62 assists in his first eight games while committing only six turnovers. When asked about the feat, Kerr noted how Paul’s assist-to-turnover ratio is “insane.”

“Chris has made such a huge impact, even without making shots,” Kerr said. “Six assists, no turnovers; he’s up to 62 assists with 6 turnovers. That is insane. What’s he’s doing as we’re trying to find our team and our rhythm, he’s just keeping us in games with that second unit. … Chris has been amazing for us.”

Paul has been an elite playmaker throughout his career. Golden State acquired the veteran guard to help lead their second unit and control the flow of games, Paul is doing that while also ensuring the Warriors aren’t giving away possession with careless mistakes.

If Paul’s shooting slump is over, his impact on the Warriors rotation will increase. If Paul can find a rhythm on both sides of the floor, he will elevate the franchise’s chances of success, both in the regular season and in the playoffs, and that’s why they traded Jordan Poole to acquire him in the first place.
