Steve Kerr has high praise for rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis

The Golden State Warriors added rookie big man Trayce Jackson-Davis to their roster with the 57th pick in the 2023 NBA draft. The Warriors are short on depth at the center position, which could lead to Jackson-Davis playing legitimate NBA minutes this season. Usually, the Warriors bring their young talent along slowly.

Yet, it would appear Steve Kerr isn’t concerned about Jackson-Davis’ lack of experience. During a recent press conference, the Warriors head coach spoke glowingly about the former Indiana standout, noting how “he plays how we like to play.”

“What I like about Trayce: He plays how we like to play. He’s a good passer — a dribble hand-off guy at the top of the key, a good screener”, Kerr said. “(He) gives us a lob threat that we don’t otherwise have, which is a really nice addition. I think he’s the kind of guy who feels the game well. He’s got a good feel for passing, cutting movement, and a lot of the stuff that we already run, he runs really well.”

Nobody expects Jackson-Davis to be a star role player in his rookie year. However, if the 6-foot-10 big man can provide reliable backup to Dario Saric and fit within the Warriors’ offensive and defensive system, he could be fast-tracked into a significant role for the franchise – both this season and moving forward.

Golden State recently opted against acquiring Dwight Howard in free agency, so they certainly have faith in the center rotation they currently have at their disposal.
