Steve Kerr: Draymond Green fined for Jordan Poole altercation, not suspended, set to return to Warriors

Following his fight with Jordan Poole at practice last week during training camp, Draymond Green has taken some time away from the Golden State Warriors.

On Tuesday, after the Warriors’ preseason contest against the Portland Trail Blazers, Steve Kerr announced that Green won’t be suspended for the situation with Poole, but he will be fined.

Leading up to the decision, Kerr called it an “exhaustive process.” Kerr said there had been several conversations with key figures in the organization, including Steph Curry, Bob Myers and both Poole and Green.

Kerr called the situation “the biggest crisis” the Warriors have had in his stint as head coach in the Bay Area. Kerr declined to comment on the amount of the fine Green received.

This is the biggest crisis we’ve ever had since I’ve been coach here — really serious stuff. We’re not perfect. Our team isn’t perfect. Bob and I have definitely made our share of mistakes over the years, but we’re going to lean on the experience we have together over the last nine years and trust that this is the best decision for our team.

We have a lot of work to do, all of us. Players, coaches, Bob and the front office, but we’re committed to doing that work together and to making this a really successful season.

Kerr also announced that Green would return to training camp on Thursday and is expecting him to play in Golden State’s final preseason game on Friday against the Denver Nuggets.

Green is also expected to be available for ring night and the start of the NBA’s regular season against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 18 at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
