Chris Paul‘s first few games with the Golden State Warriors have been encouraging despite his turnover issues. The veteran point guard has impressed with how quickly he’s adapted to Golden State’s offensive and defensive system and has been a solid fit next to Steph Curry.
During a recent interview on “95.7 The Game,” Kerr was asked about Paul’s fit with his roster. The veteran head coach gave a glowing assessment of his latest veteran All-Star, noting how he has been a “perfect fit” in the roster and has slotted straight into the role the franchise envisioned for him.
“He’s the perfect fit for us right now. Because frankly, I think we needed leadership,” Kerr said. “I think we needed a guiding force for this group. I think our team was so young last year and obviously never really got it going. I think we put up a pretty good fight in the playoffs, but we never really found our groove. I think coming into this season, Mike Dunleavy and his staff, they recognized we needed more veteran leadership. Between Chris, Dario Saric and Cory Joesph, we added three incredible, professional, really, really good players.”
Paul’s role on the Warriors is still up for debate. In Draymond Green’s absence, Kerr has rolled with a smaller lineup that has seen Klay Thompson spending time at the forward position. Once Green eventually returns from his current injury, Paul could find himself coming off the bench. However, Kerr could also stick with his guard-heavy starting five in an attempt to out-skill opposing teams.

Whatever decision Kerr makes, Paul will undoubtedly have a role to play. The veteran guard gives the Warriors a new dimension, and of course, his leadership will prove invaluable throughout the season.
