Steve Kerr admits Warriors were careless in loss to Grizzlies

The Golden State Warriors suffered a tough loss to a short-handed Memphis Grizzlies team on Monday. The loss was the Warriors’ 22nd in a season that is quickly unraveling for the former juggernaut. It also added to the urgency to turn their play around and to string wins together.

When speaking to the media following Golden State’s latest humbling, head coach Steve Kerr admitted his team was careless against an injury-ravaged Grizzlies team. Kerr also stressed the need for his team to understand the situation it finds itself in.

“Careless,” Kerr said. “They put a lot of pressure on Steph, and you know, he had a lot of turnovers in the backcourt. It felt like they were putting pressure on us from the start. Instead of being solid, taking care of the ball, and executing, we got careless. … We have to understand where we are as a team. What our record is. Where we are in the Western Conference. What that means is we have to be sharp. We can’t turn it over. We can’t reach. We can’t foul. Tonight, we did all of those things.”

With the season’s halfway point at hand, the Warriors need to turn their play around. Based on recent performances, they’re outside of the playoff spots in the Western Conference and don’t look like the contending team they believed themselves to be heading into the season.

Golden State likely hopes to use the trade market before the Feb. 8 deadline. However, with so many questions about what position the front office needs to strengthen and who would be the logical player going in the opposite direction, we cannot guarantee that we will see any personnel changes in the coming weeks.
