Steve Kean says he can't rule out leaving Hibs if a chance to return to management arises. But he insists he's happy at Easter Road for now and is focused on his role as academy director.
Glasgow-born Kean is an experienced head at all levels of the game having previously managed Blackburn in England while he's also held posts at Real Sociedad, Fulham, Brunei and Melbourne Victory. The 54-year-old is currently in charge of the academy in Leith after joining in November last year.
The top job at Hibs has been open twice since he joined and Kean was linked both times. But Shaun Maloney was appointed in December and Lee Johnson joined as his replacement earlier in the summer with Kean remaining in his role as academy chief.
Kean was also linked with Dundee and Charlton earlier in the summer but for now he says he's focused on heading up the youth ranks at Easter Road. He oversees a 131-player operation and insists he's in no hurry to walk away.
But if an opportunity opened up? He admits he couldn't rule it out.
Speaking to BBC Sportsound, Kean said: "The thing is, when you are running an academy, you are running a whole other part of a football club. You have a big staff.
"We have 131 players in our academy. I have a big job and the reason I came here was the passion Ben Kensell (chief executive) Ian Gordon (head of recruitment) and Ron Gordon (executive chairman) showed to this department.
"Otherwise, I wouldn't have come here. So I am very happy. But you never know if something could happen in the future.
"But I am very content and this is a big thing I am building here with the backing of the club. So I am very happy where I am."
