Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper says he doesn’t expect his remit to change following the departure of chief executive Dane Murphy.
The American has left his role as CEO “by mutual consent”. But it is unlikely to greatly affect the Reds’ January plans, with recently-appointed sporting director Filippo Giraldi playing a central role in the transfer window.
Giraldi was appointed in October, and has worked closely with Cooper since then. The Forest boss insists there is a joined-up approach when it comes to recruitment.

Asked if his role was likely to change following Murphy’s exit, Cooper said: “No, I don't think so. Fairly recently, the club appointed a sporting director, in Filippo Giraldi, and I’ve been working really closely with him in the last few months.
“It’s a busy time at the moment, with it being January and the obvious conversations around possible transfers. That’s really been my port of call.
“I’m a head coach, it’s a football job, coaching the team. Most, if not all of my dialogue on a day to day basis, is with him (Giraldi). I don’t see any change for myself.”
Cooper added: “We always try to have a collaborative approach in everything we do. I’m only interested in what’s next and looking forward; I’m not really one for looking back, because we’re in the middle of the season and in January we have the opportunity to improve the squad. We’ve also got a lot of games to play, so my focus needs to be on that.
“I’ve got a really strong working relationship with Filippo, and he has with the rest of the coaching staff as well. That’s a good start with communication, in terms of trying to make the right decisions for the club going forward.
“I’m very comfortable with how we’re operating. I really just want to focus on the players I see every day, coaching and the preparation for games.
“Anything above and beyond that, of course I’m always happy to help and be involved. But I’m really enjoying the football, enjoying trying to improve the team and the squad, working closely with the boys every day and trying to give our best for the next game.”
