Steve Cooper 'opens door' for Nottingham Forest transfer

Nottingham Forest are looking to send goalkeeper George Shelvey out on loan in January, according to a report.

Shelvey, 21, is looking for his first taste of regular senior football after a trio of failed loan moves at Truro City, Wealdstone and Mansfield Town.

The Forest academy graduate spent the first half of last season with League Two outfit Mansfield but failed to make a league appearance, only featuring three times in the EFL Trophy while conceding eight goals.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Reds head coach Steve Cooper has "opened the door" for him to go out on loan in the January window, which opens in just 13 days' time. Shelvey is some way down the pecking order at Forest, with Dean Henderson, Wayne Hennessey, Jordan Smith, Ethan Horvath and Adnan Kanuric all ahead of him.

The report states Shelvey is "showing promise" but has "no chance" of Premier League football at this stage, an inevitability with so many goalkeepers blocking his path to the first team.

Shelvey has made five appearances in Premier League 2 for the Reds' under-21s this season, keeping two clean sheets in games against Sunderland and local rivals Derby County.
