Steve Cooper has already made Nottingham Forest stance clear amid Southampton link

Steve Cooper has already made his Nottingham Forest stance clear amid strong interest from Southampton, in their managerial search.

The Saints parted ways with Nathan Jones following the 2-1 home defeat to 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Jones won just one of his eight games in charge, while losing the other seven.

The result at St Mary's was their third consecutive defeat as they sit rock bottom of the Premier League. Several candidates have been considered as the club look to appoint a new manager.

Those being considered for the role are Torino manager Ivan Juric, former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch, and Cooper, according to reports. Cooper however, has recently signed a contract extension until 2025 as he continues to steer Forest in the right direction.

Amid speculation, the Welshman has previously addressed his future. "Everyone who knows me, knows how much I have loved and am loving my time here, at Nottingham Forest. I think everyone knows how important it is to me," Cooper said back in October.

"No one had ever questioned how much I love it here and want to be here, that has never been in question. If there is talk about that it can stop. I’m more than happy to give everything I’ve got to try to succeed here.

"But that’s where my mindset is - let’s try to succeed. That is the real motivation for me. Getting through this run."
