Steve Cooper gives Nottingham Forest injury update as West Ham warning sent

Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Aurier injury update

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is hopeful Serge Aurier’s enforced substitution against Manchester City was simply due to fatigue.

The right-back came off with 10 minutes to go of the 1-1 draw at the City Ground , having required treatment after going to ground. Renan Lodi made way at the same time, with Harry Toffolo and goalscorer Chris Wood the two players brought on

The Reds are already having to contend with an extensive injury list. But the hope is that Aurier hasn’t suffered anything too serious.

“I don’t know whether it’s a bit of fatigue. Hopefully that’s all it is,” said Cooper.

Micah Richards’ Forest praise

Micah Richards has praised Nottingham Forest for defending 'for their lives' in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Forest picked up a superb late point thanks to Chris Wood's equaliser six minutes from time, in what was their only shot on target. City were made to pay for a number of missed chances throughout the match, with Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte all guilty of missing sitters.

Pep Guardiola's side actually had 23 shots in comparison to Forest's four in the 90 minutes and while Richards believes the Reds did ride their luck at times, he did praise them for sticking in right until the end.

Guardiola addresses Haaland reaction

Pep Guardiola has conceded he deserved his yellow card during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

It proved to be an incredibly frustrating afternoon for the Premier League champions on the banks of the Trent as they were brought back down to earth with a thump following their 3-1 win at title rivals Arsenal in midweek.

Erling Haaland was involved in the incident which led to his manager getting booked in the second half. Guardiola reacted furiously to referee Graham Scott’s decision not to award a foul – and likely red card – when Haaland went down under a challenge from Joe Worrall when through on goal. Haaland seemed to down theatrically, although Guardiola questioned why the striker would go down when in such a good position.

Declan Rice’s Forest warning

West Ham United captain Declan Rice has set his sights on a "big one" against Nottingham Forest after the Hammers fell into the Premier League relegation zone this weekend.

Results at the bottom of the table on Saturday meant that David Moyes’ side dropped to 18th place ahead of their clash against London rivals Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Emerson Royal and Son Heung-min condemned them to a 2-0 defeat, meaning they go into next week’s game against Forest in the relegation zone.

Ahead of the game, there are five points between West Ham in 18th and Forest in 13th, following the Reds ’ point against Man City in their last outing on Saturday. It’s coming to the time of the season where fans are keeping an eye on other team’s results, but Rice has said that the players are solely focused on their upcoming match against Forest.
