Steve Clarke welcomes 'headache' provided by Kieran Tierney's Scotland return

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has welcomed the 'headache' Kieran Tierney's return from injury has given him.

The left-back hasn't played for the national team since last summer's European Championships when he tore his hamstring 61 minutes into the Scots' second group-stage match against Switzerland.

Tierney has returned to the ranks for Arsenal in recent times, however, and was included in Clarke's squad for the upcoming crucial UEFA Nations League A play-off with Greece.

Scotland regularly implemented a back-four during their recent Nations League campaign, although Tierney's return provides Clarke with a welcomed dilemma: "No headache, [it's] a nice problem to have when you have good players to select from," he said.

"We’ve also lost a few players in the build-up to the game, so we brought some younger ones in and it has freshened training up a bit, so it has been good preparation.

"And as a coach you want as many difficult choices as possible and I have a few of them.

"I’m always thinking of changing things. You have to wait to see the team on the pitch.

"It gives us another option. We have discussed it and spoken about it and hopefully we can come up with the right solution for the game.

"Obviously we changed the whole way we approached the Nations League when we went with four.

"It worked well because we also had the outlet on the right-hand side with the pace of Ben (Doak). So we didn’t have the option of putting Kieran into the team. So, yes, it’s given me a lot to think about."

Scotland will be looking to secure a positive result in Piraeus to take home to Sunday's second leg at Hampden.

Due to the stature of the occasion and ferocity of the atmosphere, Clarke is likely to field a familiar lineup: "It's nice to have four new faces around, a bit of youth as well, which is always good," he said.

"Obviously, we've got the boys that have done ever so well, have got lots of experience and lots of caps. Maybe the situation, the atmosphere here tomorrow and the opponents we're playing needs an experienced team on the pitch."
