Steve Clarke admits he had no doubt Nathan Patterson would become a star man for Everton once given his chance.
The former Rangers defender made a big money move south of the border back in January but struggled to make any real impact last season, playing just one in an FA Cup clash with Boreham Wood before being replaced at half-time.
This season has been a different story for the Scotland international under Frank Lampard. He's started every game in England's top flight to date and he has also played every single minute and quickly established himself as a key man in the Toffees' side. National team boss Clark was always certain he would grab his opportunity with both hands after being a 'big player' for his country. He's now the same at club level and that can only help Patterson, Everton and Scotland as he continues to play at the top level.

Speaking about for the former Rangers kid after announcing his Nations League squad for the triple-header, Clarke said: "I think I was always quite clear in my mind that if Nathan got the chance to play at Everton he would grab that chance.
"He's a big player for his club now and that is great to see. He's been a big player for his country for a little while. Probably playing more football for his country than his club.
"It's nice that he has got that role at Everton and seems to have nailed it down.
"Playing in the English Premier League week in week out can only improve Nathan. Which is good for Nathan, Everton and of course Scotland."
